Solve your pain problem

SHONAteam

Shona graduated from Queen Margaret University College in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and went on to complete a Post Graduate Masters degree in Musculoskeletal Management from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2010.

She worked in the NHS as a Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist over the last 18 years, and more recently as an Advanced Practice Clinical Specialist in Back Pain.  She has also worked in sports clinics over the years and this gives her a wealth of experience treating runners, athletes and elite dancers.  Being a keen runner herself, she is particularly interested in rehabilitation of running and lower limb related pain.  She also loves yoga and the connection between how we breathe and how we move.

Shona is passionate about giving people who have "been everywhere and tried everything" hope for change through her approach.  She is up to date with new pain science, and works using a Cognitive Functional Therapy Approach (CFT) - see https://www.restorebackpain.com ).  Whilst working within the NHS, she provided education to the physios, particularly around health communication skills. As a clinical specialist she provided 2nd opinion clinics for physiotherapists dealing with more complex patients. She finds great satisfaction working with patients who have debilitating, on-going pain problems and has the skills and experience to empower them to get back to what they love to do.

She loves teaching and educating and is a guest lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian Uni, has presented to GGC NHS and The British Pain Society on healthcare communication, and does a back pain surgery on BBC Radio Scotland Mornings.

Shona is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and is Health Care Professions Council registered. She is also a member of the Physiotherapy Pain Association.

"I’ve been struggling with chronic pain for the last 4 years, and it took 7 physios, 2 consultants, and a podiatrist before I found the amazing Shona. It’s no exaggeration to say that in the last 6 months she’s changed my life. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to do the things I love without pain; but now I’m cycling, swimming and even running. Shona has been there every step of the way and I can’t recommend West End physio enough". Maddie Rumsey
